The 1968 television movie Shadow on the Land, which also went by the title United States: It Can't Happen Here, was produced by Screen Gems as a backdoor pilot for a series. Jessup lives and works in the small town of Fort Beulah, Vermont. Doremus Jessup, the hero of the story, is a liberal newspaper editor in the Green Mountains of Vermont in 1935, when the country is in danger of coming under the sway of a fascist demagogue who seeks to be elected president.
